CBS apologizes for Billy Joel concert blunder, will re-air special

CBS apologized Monday, the day after the network cut short “Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden” as the singer was performing one of his most popular songs.

“A network programming timing error ended last night’s Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones,” a CBS statement read. “We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song. Due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans, BILLY JOEL: THE 100TH – LIVE AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN will be rebroadcast in its entirety on CBS on April 19th at 9:00PM ET/PT.”

Th CBS statement didn’t specify why the network cut away early from programming, but fans missed Joel’s performance of “The Piano Man.”

“Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden” special had started a half-hour late Sunday due to the late finish to the 2024 Masters Tournament.

The concert was taped March 28 at Madison Square Garden to mark the 100th show in his long-running (and final) residency at his hometown venue.
