Gunfire during Tuscaloosa robbery leaves 1 teen dead, 1 teen critical and 1 teen jailed

Gunfire late Friday night in Tuscaloosa left one teen dead and another with critical injuries.

Tuscaloosa police responded about 11 p.m. to a report of a shooting and a car crash in the 2200 block of Reece Boulevard. They arrived to find a vehicle had crashed into a house.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said one of the victims inside the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene. The second was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center with life-threatening wounds.

Kennedy said the scene was extensive. The crime scene units from both the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office worked together to gather the evidence.

Investigators determined that the shooting and subsequent crash resulted from a robbery attempt. The young driver was shot, which caused the crash.

Another teen has been charged with felony murder and first-degree robbery.

The names of the victims and the suspect are not being released because of their ages.

Kennedy said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.

The victim is the second teen killed in Tuscaloosa in two days.
