This airline is changing how it boards passengers
Delta Air Lines is changing its boarding process in an effort to speed up loading passengers onto planes.
The airline is introducing numbered boarding zones for all flights, reports CBS News. The new policy means that customers will have a zone number assigned to them instead of boarding groups labeled by airline status or fare class, such as “Sky Priority.” According to CBS, the boarding orders will not change, but the group names will.
The change, which begins May 1, is a return to the “traditional” way of boarding people, in what some experts call an unusual move for an innovative airline, CBS said.
Here’s what to know
Customers who need more assistance will still pre-board before passengers in Zone 1.
Zone 1 will consist of Delta One and First Class customers. Zone 2 will include Diamond Medallion Members and Delta Premium Select ticket holders. Zone 3 will consist of Delta Comfort + customers. Sky Priority will be in Zone 4. Zone numbers will go up to 8, when basic economy passengers will board, reports CBS news.
