Roy Wood Jr., Andrew Yang, Facebook whistleblower among speakers for 2024 Sloss Tech

Birmingham’s own Roy Wood Jr. will be the emcee of the sixth edition of Sloss Tech, June 27 and 28 at the Lyric Theatre.

Also appearing as keynote speakers will be Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

Sloss Tech organizers are rolling out an expanded conference format this year with two days of main stage programming at the Lyric, panel conversations on the stages at Sidewalk Film Center and Cinema, and other additional satellite experiences.

“We view Sloss Tech as more than just an event, it’s also an invitation; an opportunity to launch your next startup, find your next team member, or – as you can see from our dynamic keynotes – hear from some of the most consequential and impactful minds in technology today,” Deon Gordon, President and CEO of Tech Birmingham, said.

Wood, a comedian, Daily Show correspondent, and Emmy-winning documentary producer, is also known for his philanthropic work with Workshops, Inc., The DUBS Baseball Academy, STAIR of Birmingham, and I See Me, Inc.

Yang, served as the CEO of Manhattan Prep, growing the company until its acquisition in 2009. He is the founder of Humanity Forward and Venture for America, and will speak on how generative AI is going to change the tech industry.

Haugen, an expert in algorithmic product management, has worked at Google, Pinterest, Yelp and Facebook. In 2021, she disclosed thousands of Facebook’s internal documents to the Securities and Exchange Commission and The Wall Street Journal. Her memoir, “The Power of One: How I Found the Strength to Tell the Truth and Why I Blew the Whistle on Facebook,” was published last year.

Additional speakers and conference schedule will be released in the coming months. Tickets can be purchased online: VIP ($339) and General Admission ($239). Discounted tickets are available for TechBirmingham members.
