A Gulf Shores man was killed Saturday night when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car on Canal Drive, Gulf Shores police said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to the scene in the 1000 block of Canal Drive just after 10 p.m. Saturday night.

The motorcycle rider — identified as 48-year-old Steven E. Hodo — had suffered severe injuries and was airlifted from the scene to a local hospital, where he died.

The driver of the car was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation, but witnesses told police the car was traveling west on Canal Drive when the motorcycle, traveling east on Canal Drive, crossed into the westbound lane and collided with the car.
