32-year-old mother among 3 killed in separate Jefferson County homicides over the weekend

Three people were killed in Jefferson County over the weekend, including a mother slain in the presence of her children.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified two of the victims as Lanetta Mechelle Palacios, 32, and Patrick Jamal Johnson, 52. The third victim, killed in Midfield, has not yet been identified.

Palacios was killed early Sunday at her home in the 5600 block of Timber Leaf Loop in the Timber Leaf Cove community in the McCalla area.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said she sustained blunt force injuries during a domestic assault. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:31 a.m.

Peter Pablo Palacios, 36, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 10:01 a.m. Sunday on a capital murder charge. Jail records indicated the victim was killed in the presence of at least one child under the age of 14.

The case is being investigated by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Efforts to reach sheriff’s officials for comment about the slaying were unsuccessful.

Johnson was shot at 5:45 p.m. Friday in the 5100 block of Kings Drive in Adamsville.

He was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:02 p.m.

Adamsville police Chief Chris Robinson said more information would be released later today.

Earl Duane Scott, 57, is charged with murder in Johnson’s death, jail records show. He was booked into the jail at 5:03 p.m. Sunday and remains held without bond.

A man was killed early Saturday in Midfield.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 2:01 a.m. to a report of shots fired in the 1300 block of Woodward Road.

Authorities arrived to find the victim on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The coroner’s office said the victim has not yet been identified but he was an adult Black male.

The three weekend slayings bring the homicide tally for all of Jefferson County to 48.
