High surf advisory issued for Mobile and Baldwin counties from Tuesday to Friday
The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory at 4:04 a.m. on Monday valid from Tuesday 3 p.m. until Friday 1 a.m. for Mobile and Baldwin counties.
“Large breaking waves of 5 to 8 feet expected in the surf zone,” adds the weather service. “An upgrade to a High Surf Warning may become necessary for late Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Surf heights may reach up to 8 to 10 feet during that timeframe.”
“Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water,” explains the weather service. “Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.”
