‘SNL’ roasts Charles Barkley’s March Madness analysis: ‘I didn’t watch it’
Kenan Thompson once again played Charles Barkley during the cold open of “Saturday Night Live” this week.
Along with Ernie Johnson (played by James Austin Johnson) and Kenny Smith (Devon Walker), Thompson roasted Barkley for his college basketball analysis during March Madness, when the Auburn legend and his TNT pals take a break from their “Inside the NBA” gig to cover the NCAA men’s tournament.
“SNL” spoofed the TBS studio segment wherein they were set to break down Alabama’s fresh loss to the UConn Huskies in Final Four action.
“Ernie, you know what? I’m just gonna admit it,” Barkley told the host. “I am not an expert on college basketball.”
He said he’s much more comfortable on his other show, CNN’s “King Charles,” which he cohosts with Gayle King, “where I talk about immigration and the war on the Ukrainey.”
Johnson then said the Final Four matchup between top-seeded UConn and prohibitive underdog Alabama had just wrapped, and he wanted Barkley’s analysis.

“Ernie can I be real with you?” Barkley asked his colleague. “I didn’t watch it.”
Smith said the same, noting it’s hard to watch it when there were better games on TV, meaning the NCAA women’s basketball tournament.
Barkley said the women’s tournament had the stars that draw people to watch it. “
“Caitlin Clark is doing adds for State Farm, Subway, Xfinity, and Nike,” Barkley said. “I’m only doing ads for three of those companies.”
When Johnson pressed him to discuss the looming title game between UConn and Purdue, Barkley reluctantly broke down the rosters with which he had little familiarity. “Well I guess I don’t get paid unless I do, so here we go,” Barkley said. “Him and him, this guy on this guy, half-’stache on braids, babyface versus babyface, tall white versus tall Asian. I think that about covers it.”
They invited LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey (played by Heidi Gardner) to share her opinion, but she also revealed she didn’t watch the men’s tournament.
“Aw man, I like her, man. She is tough,” Barkley said. “And that’s why her teams always win. Except this year when they lost.”

Thompson has played Barkley, who has hosted “SNL” four times,” several times since he debuted on the show in 2003.
