The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for a large part of Alabama for Thursday.

A red flag warning means that conditions are ripe for wildfires, and outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. The red flag warning will be in effect from noon until 7 p.m. today.

Today will feature very low humidity levels and windy conditions — a good setup for fires to take off and spread.

Winds are forecast to be sustained at 15-20 mph and could gust as high as 30 mph.

Humidity levels could drop to as low as 20 percent.

Here are the Alabama counties under red flag warnings on Thursday:

CENTRAL ALABAMA

* Red flag warning from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday for: Marion, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Blount, Etowah, Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Marengo, Dallas, Autauga, Lowndes, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike and Barbour counties.

SOUTH ALABAMA

* Red flag warning from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday for: Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Escambia, Covington, Mobile, Baldwin and Mobile counties.
