Verizon class action lawsuit deadline is coming soon: How to sign up for settlement

The deadline for some Verizon customers to claim part of a proposed $100 million class action settlement is approaching.

The settlement is part of a New Jersey lawsuit claiming U.S. customers who signed up for Verizon’s wireless service plans at certain monthly rates ended up paying more due to undisclosed administration fees. These charges were implemented in a “deceptive and unfair manner,” the plaintiffs claimed.

Charges started at 40 cents per month for each phone line in 2005, ultimately rising to $3.30 a line by 2022.

While not admitting fault, Verizon has agreed to a settlement on the claims. In addition to the payments, the wireless company will amend its customer agreement to include disclosures related to the administrative charges.

All current and former account holders with wireless or data services that were charged Verizon’s administrative charges between Jan. 1, 2016, to Nov. 8, 2023, are eligible. Eligible customers will receive a notice by mail or email.

Eligible customers will receive up to $100, depending on how many claims are filed and how long you were a subscriber. The minimum payment will be $15, plus $1 for each month the administrative fee was assessed.

The deadline to file a claim is April 15.

You can file online here or by mail with the letter or email sent from the company.
