Domestic dispute ends in deadly gunfire at east Birmingham home
An apparent domestic dispute ended in fatal gunfire at an east Birmingham home.
Irondale police initially responded to a report of shots fired in the 900 block of Navarro Lane. The call went out about 10:57 a.m. Tuesday.
They arrived to find a man dead inside a home.
Officers quickly determined the crime scene was actually in Birmingham’s city limits, so Birmingham police and detectives flocked to the scene.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said they learned a domestic disturbance had taken place, and escalated to the point where the victim was shot.
A woman was taken into custody at the scene. They appeared to be in some sort of romantic relationship, Fitzgerald said.
“Irondale’s quick response and the actions they took on the scene have helped us tremendously,’’ Fitzgerald said.
Animal control was called to the scene to round up multiple cats and at least one dog from the house.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
He is Birmingham’s 35th homicide so far this year. Of those, three have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County there have been 44 homicides, including the 35 in Birmingham.
