Republicans push to rename Dulles airport after Trump: Democrat suggests prison instead
Will Donald Trump get an opportunity to have his private jet land on a runway at the “Donald J. Trump International Airport” in Washington D.C.?
Almost certainly not. But if a group of House Republicans had their way, the former president would get to do just that. They introduced legislation that would rename D.C.’s Washington Dulles International Airport.
The push is being led by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.), House Republicans’ chief deputy whip, and is backed by a half dozen of his colleagues. They include Reps. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.), Chuck Fleischmann (R-Tenn.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and Troy Nehls (R-Texas).
“Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That’s what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump — the best president of my lifetime,” Reschenthaler posted on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. “And that’s why I’m introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
The airport is named after John Foster Dulles, a former secretary of state under President Dwight Eisenhower.
“Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly, a Democrat whose district includes Dulles, according to Axios.
