South Alabama’s James Jackson selected for NFLPA game
South Alabama center James Jackson has been selected for the 2023 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which takes place Jan. 28 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.
Jackson was a two-year starter at center for the Jaguars after transferring in from Mississippi State in 2021. The 6-foot-3, 320-pound native of Pascagoula, Miss., anchored a South Alabama offensive line that helped the Jaguars go 10-3 and reach the New Orleans Bowl in 2022.
Jackson joins teammates Darrell Luter and Jalen Wayne as all-star game selections this year. Luter (a cornerback) and Wayne (a wide receiver) will play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl Feb. 4 in Mobile.
The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which will be broadcast by NFL Network, splits its roster into National and American teams. Tennessee State’s Eddie George will coach the National team, which veteran NFL coach Jeff Fisher will direct the American squad.
South Alabama offensive tackle Ja’Chai Baker played in the 2022 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. Baker now plays for the XFL’s Orlando Guardians.
