Decatur police say one person is dead following a shooting Wednesday afternoon.

In a news release, police said investigators were on the scene around 3 p.m. in the 900 block of 10th Ave. N.E.

One man was shot at the scene. He later died at a local hospital, according to police.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name.

The Special Services Alternative Center on Church Street was placed on a secure perimeter, police said, with Decatur City Schools conducting a controlled release.
