A Phenix City man is behind bars in the killing of a woman whose composed body was found last year.

Navansley Vonques Smith, 38, is charge with murder in the slaying of Jennifer Marie Anderson.

Anderson’s body was found Oct. 27, 2023, near the intersection of Brickyard Road and Fontaine Road in Phenix City. The discovery was made about 1:15 p.m. that Friday.

Anderson was later identified by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.

Smith was taken into custody earlier this week. No additional details have been released and authorities have not said how or why Anderson was killed.

The investigation is still ongoing.
