UAB basketball’s Yaxel Lendeborg annouces return to Blazers for 2024-2025 season
As the man once said, “Yax is back.”
UAB junior forward Yaxel Lendeborg spurned the transfer portal and announced his intentions to return for his senior season with the Blazers on social media Tuesday.

The 6-foot-10 forward from Pennsauken, N.J. signed with UAB last offseason out of Arizona Western College, where he was named a two-time NJCAA All-American, and finished this season averaging a double-double with 13.8 points and 10.6 rebounds, along with an AAC-leading 2.1 blocks.
Lendeborg was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year and first-team All-AAC and set both the AAC and UAB single-season record for rebounds (370). He also broke Elijah Milsap’s UAB record for most double-doubles in a season (19) and was one of two players (Purdue’s Zach Edey) to record five games of at least 20 points and 15 rebounds.
Shortly after Lendeborg’s announcement, fellow big man Christian Coleman implied his return as well in a post on social media. Coleman came on strong late in the season and started the final four games for the Blazers while averaging 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds on the season.
The Blazers finished the 2023-2024 season with a 23-12 overall record, an AAC tournament championship — in UAB’s first season in the league — and a first-round appearance in the NCAA tournament.
