The Birmingham metro area is seeing a surge in people moving to the suburbs, as Jefferson County keeps shrinking.

St. Clair County is now the fastest-growing county in the metro, just edging out the rapidly expanding suburbs of Shelby County. St. Clair is now inching toward the 100,000-mark, up 1.8% between 2022 and 2023, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
