Alabama man charged with trying to blow up grandmother’s vehicle

A Theodore man is charged with attempting to blow up his grandmother’s vehicle by putting a combustible material in her gas tank, WALA has reported.

Mobile police responded to a residence on Mounthill Court in Theodore about 6:41 p.m. Monday on a report of a domestic incident.

Officers learned the victim’s grandson — identified as 26-year-old Clifton Devon Whitfield — had broken into her vehicle, removed some belongings and then “attempted to ignite it by putting combustible material in the gas tank,” according to the report.

No one was injured in the incident. Whitfield has been charged with making a terrorist threat and breaking and entering. He remained in Mobile Metro Jail as of Tuesday morning, held without bond pending a Wednesday morning hearing.

Jail records show Whitfield has prior arrests for domestic violence/harassment; contempt of court; harassment and assault.
