Authorities ID man electrocuted while taking copper wire from electrical box in Center Point

Authorities have released the name of a man who was electrocuted while taking wiring from an electrical box at a Jefferson County apartment building.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Joshua Andrew Mobley. He was 44 and lived in Birmingham.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday to Woodside Condominiums on a report of a person down.

“According to initial reports, it is thought a male was taking wiring from an electrical box,’’ said Lt. Joni Money.

“Unbeknownst to the subject, the lines were live, despite much of the property being vacant.”

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Mobley was electrocuted while removing copper wire from the box.

Center Point Fire and Rescue attempted life-saving measures, which were unsuccessful.

Mobley was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:18 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
