Gunfire rang out Sunday afternoon in a Birmingham neighborhood, leaving a man seriously wounded.

The shooting happened about 3 p.m. in the 900 block of Eighth Avenue West.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Details surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, but Wade said a potential suspect is in custody.
