Risk for storms expanded for Alabama on Monday

More of Alabama could face the prospect of strong to severe storms on Monday into Tuesday, according to forecasters.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center updated its severe weather outlook for Monday and has raised the risk for storms for part of west Alabama from a Level 1 out of 5 to a Level 2.

In addition, more of the state was put in a Level 1 risk for Monday.

A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.

The strongest storms could have damaging straight-line winds and heavy rain. The National Weather Service in Mobile added that there will also be a risk for tornadoes for parts of south Alabama.

The weather service is expecting a line of rain and storms to approach Alabama from the west on Monday evening. The storms have the greatest potential for being severe for those in southwest Alabama, but isolated severe storms will be possible in parts of central and north Alabama as well.

The weather service is forecasting parts of west and south Alabama to get 2 to 3 inches of rain through Wednesday afternoon.

Another round of rain and a few storms will be possible in Alabama late Monday through early Wednesday. Some areas could get up to 3 inches of rain. It will also be windy across a large part of the state, and a few severe storms will also be possible in south Alabama.National Weather Service

And a wind advisory will be in effect for much of the state starting on Monday. Winds could be sustained from 20-25 mph and could gust as high as 45 mph.
