University of Mobile officials pleaded with state lawmakers Wednesday to support legislation aimed at de-annexing the entire institution’s 896 acres from the City of Prichard over concerns about sewer services for support future expansion projects.

But Prichard city officials, and their Democratic state lawmaker allies, said the matter should be dealt with locally and not through a state constitutional amendment as proposed by legislation introduced recently in the Alabama House and Senate.
