90-year-old man dies after wreck in north Alabama
A 90-year-old man died after being involved in a wreck late Wednesday morning on Highway 231 in north Alabama that also injured the other driver, authorities said Wednesday evening.
Robert R. Barnes Jr., 90, of Huntsville, was driving a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis when his vehicle was struck by a 2008 Porsche Cayenne around 11:56 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 231 near Old Silo Road, about five miles south of Lacey Springs, in Morgan County, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey.
After the initial impact, the Grand Marquis left the road and struck a ditch, said Bailey.
Barnes was injured and taken to Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, where he later died of his injuries.
The driver of the Cayenne was also injured and helicoptered to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. The severity of their injuries were unclear.
Further information was unavailable as state troopers continued to investigate the wreck.
