2 Alabama women charged in murder-for-hire after man killed, woman shot outside home
Two Jefferson County women have been charged with murder-for-hire in the 2021 shooting death of a 46-year-old man in Sylacauga.
Kiera Monthelia Turner, 28, of Leeds, and Allana Amani Reid, 30, of Birmingham, are charged with capital murder/murder for hire in the slaying of Bradford Franklin Isbell.
Isbell was killed about 10 p.m. on June 23, 2021, on Harper Springs Road in Sylacauga. Police found Isbell dead outside the home.
Officers also found Rachel Elizabeth Hayes, 32, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham and survived.
Investigators at the time said they didn’t believe the shooting was random, but no arrests were made.
A Jefferson County grand jury on March 8 indicted both women on the capital murder charge.
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office led the investigation into Turner and Reid but have not elaborated on what launched the probe and the reason for their involvement in the case.
Prosecutors said they couldn’t comment because of the ongoing investigation. Efforts to reach the Sylacauga police chief for comment weren’t immediately successful.
The indictments state that the woman hired or assisted in hiring the man accused of carrying out the shooting “for pecuniary and/or other valuable consideration or pursuant to a contract for hire.”
Though the alleged shooter is named in the indictments, AL.com is not identifying him because court records don’t show he has been charged in the case.
He is currently in prison on an unrelated manslaughter conviction.
Turner was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Friday, and Reid on Monday.
Both are being held without bond.
