JC Latham talks Kadyn Proctor’s return to Alabama from Iowa

Offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor is reportedly on his way back to Alabama football after a brief dalliance with Iowa. The Crimson Tide’s starter on the left side last season entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season ended, heading back to play the Hawkeyes of his home state.

Proctor announced his intentions to reenter the portal on Tuesday, with a plan to return to UA. On Wednesday, former Alabama right tackle JC Latham confirmed the news after participating in the Tide’s pro day ahead of the NFL Draft.

“We’re the standard,” Latham said. “The grass isn’t always greener in other places. So when things happen and you think it might be better somewhere else, you get to find out the hard way that it’s not. It’s Alabama for spring practice.”

Proctor earned the starting job at Alabama as a true freshman last season. He struggled early on, but showed major improvement throughout the season.

He earned freshman all-SEC honors from the conference’s coaches, before entering the portal and heading north. According to Latham, he hadn’t had much contact with Proctor about the decision.

“I don’t think I have,” Latham said. “I know we keep it casual, I slide up on his (Instagram) stories and talk to him from there, that perspective, but I haven’t really chopped it up with him as fart as his decision to come back because I’ve been training.”

Latham praised how far Proctor came as a player during his first season in Tuscaloosa.

“Amazing amount of improvement,” Latham said. “He was a young pup when he first got in and just from summer, fall camp and moving forward, just the ability to adjust on the fly and keep things going. I mean, you look at the last game and you compare it to the first game and you’ll see the improvement right there.”

Proctor can’t re-enter the transfer portal until April 15. He will be immediately eligible upon his return.
