With retirement on the horizon, Mobile artist Monica Beasley is reinventing herself

Monica Beasley has always been close to her mother. Recently, she created a show as a tribute to her mom, Geneva Hill. “In My Mother’s Garden” at Sophiella Gallery in downtown Mobile consisted of colorful collages inspired by time she has spent with her mother, a longtime gardener, among the flowers she has cultivated.

Last summer, she was able to fulfill her mother’s dream of attending the Sequim Lavender Festival in Sequim, Washington. With the help of a dear friend from college who lives in Washington, Monica planned an unforgettable trip that included flying first-class to Seattle, leasing an electric car that had to be charged at various small towns along the way, visiting three separate lavender farms and seeing several islands together.
