Wawa has set an opening date for its first Alabama store
We now have a date for the grand opening of the first Wawa store in Alabama.
Wawa, a gas station-convenience store chain beloved for traits including its grocery selection and its famous made-to-order hoagies, announced two years ago that it was launching a wave of expansion across the Florida Panhandle and central Gulf Coast. Previously it had mainly been an East Coast phenomenon.
In June 2023 the company broke ground on its first Alabama location, a site on the south side of Fairhope at 18968 Greeno Road, near Fairhope High School. At the time, company officials said plans called for it to open in the second quarter of 2024. That’s going to happen on April 25.
According to information released Monday, doors will open at 8 a.m. that day, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to follow at 10 a.m.

“We can’t wait to open our doors to our new Alabama friends and neighbors and are excited for the chance to offer our new customers our unique brand of fresh food, beverages and convenience,” Robert Yeatts, Sr. director of store operations, said in a company announcement. “As each location opens, we will further solidify our commitment to providing the community with not only a new level of convenience but a strong, committed community partner.”
Openings will follow this summer for stores at 7095 Cottage Hill Road in Mobile and 21022 Ala. 59 in Robertsdale.
Wawa says it plans to open up to 10 stores in Baldwin and Mobile counties over the next several years. Each will employ about 35 associates.
