8-year-old girl airlifted after hit-and-run in Baldwin County; driver in custody

An 8-year-old child was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and a 33-year-old woman is in custody following a hit-and-run incident in Baldwin County Monday morning.

According to Elberta police, dispatchers were notified of a child being struck by a vehicle on Krehling Road about 7:15 a.m.

Officers responding to the scene were given a description of the black SUV which struck the girl and fled the scene.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Katherine Rolek of Elberta, was apprehended later Monday morning after her vehicle was located in the parking lot of her place of employment. She is facing a charge of felony leaving the scene of an accident.

The injured girl was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla., She is a student at Elberta Elementary.
