NCAA tournament snubs: Indiana State, Oklahoma left out

The full 2024 NCAA tournament field is set, but a few notable teams were left on the outside looking in.

Among those is Indiana State, which was ranked in the Top 25 earlier this season for the first time since the Larry Bird glory days in the late 1970s. The Sycamores finished 28-6 and won the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship, but lost to Drake in the conference tournament championship game.

Indiana State had a NET ranking of 29, the best of any team ever left out of the NCAA tournament. The Sycamores also feature one of the more intriguing players in the country in star center Robbie Avila, affectionately known as “Cream Abdul-Jabbar.”

Oklahoma is also left out, despite a 20-12 record, a 46 NET and four “Quad 1″ wins. But the banged-up Sooners finished just 8-10 in the Big 12, lost six of their last eight games and lost to TCU in the first round of the conference tournament.

Also out are Seton Hall (5 Q1 wins, NET 67), Pittsburgh (4 Q1 wins, NET 40), St. John’s (4 Q1 wins, 32 NET), Providence (6 Q1 wins, 57 NET). St. John’s is coached by Rick Pitino, who has led both Kentucky and Louisville to national championships.
