Alejandro Vasquez scores career high to lift UAB over Temple for AAC tournament title

The UAB basketball team is going to need to some new shoes after punching its ticket to the Big Dance.

The Blazers shrugged off a slow start and dominated their way to an 85-69 victory over Temple in the AAC tournament title game, Sunday, March 17, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Blazers shot 49.2 percent from the field and were 8-of-19 on 3-pointers and 15-of-22 at the charity stripe. UAB allowed the Owls to shoot 41 percent overall and win the rebounding battle with a slight plus-1 edge on the glass.

Alejandro Vasquez led the Blazers with a career-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting, including 5-fo-6 showing from 3-point range. Eric Gaines had 15 points, six rebounds, nine assists, three blocks and five steals, and Yaxel Lendeborg notched his 19th double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
