ASWA girls All-State basketball: Multi-year selections highlight team

Five players earning at least their fourth all-state selection highlight the Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State girls basketball team.

Gatorade Player of the Year Ace Austin of Class 1A Spring Garden is the only five-time selection, first earning second-team status as a seventh-grader and named to the first team each of the past four years. The junior Alabama commit was Class 2A first team in 2021 and 2022 and Class 1A the past two seasons, including class Player of the Year in 2023.

Four-time selections are Class 7A Auburn junior Syriah Daniels, including three on the first team, along with Hewitt-Trussville senior Jordan Hunter, twice named first team.

Class 6A Jasper senior Mia Hollingsworth was named to the team for the fourth time, 2024 with Jasper — honorable mention in 2023 with the Vikings — along with 2020, 2021 and 2022 Class 4A third team with Hamilton.

Class 4A Good Hope senior Ivey Maddox is a four-time selection, including three first team honors.

Players from AHSAA state championship were also well represented with 19 overall selected to the team, 10 first-teamers. Class 5A champion Jasper, Class 4A Good Hope and Class 1A Spring Garden each had two first-team selections.

The team was selected by the Alabama Sports Writers Association prep committee with nominations from coaches.

All first-team selections are eligible to be named class Player of the Year and Miss Basketball. Three finalists for player of the year in each classification will be announced Wednesday.

Players of the year, the Super 5 teams along with Mr. Basketball and Miss Basketball will be announced at a banquet on April 16 in Montgomery. The banquet is sponsored by Alfa Insurance and the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.
