Man charged in death of acquaintance who was fatally shot by Hueytown homeowner
A Bessemer man has been charged with murder in the death of an acquaintance who was fatally shot by a Hueytown homeowner last month.
La’Garyeus Lamar Boglin, 26, is charged with felony murder in the Feb. 19 slaying of 43-year-old Contravia Lamond Jackson.
Boglin is also charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping, and first-degree burglary in connection with the same incident.
Hueytown police were dispatched at 2 a.m. that Monday to a home in the 200 block of June Avenue on a report of a person shot.
Officers arrived to find Jackson shot in the front seat of a vehicle. Police have not said where Jackson where on the property he was actually shot.
Jackson was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:30 a.m.
Police said the initial investigation indicates the sister of the resident of the home arrived at the house with Jackson and Boglin. Jackson brandished a gun and was shot by the homeowner.
The homeowner was not charged with any crime.
Boglin is the only person to be charged in this case.
Boglin is charged under Alabama’s felony murder law which allows a person to be charged with murder if they are participating in a felony crime that results in death, whether or not that person actually pulled the trigger.
He was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and booked into the Jefferson County Jail Thursday evening. He is being held without bond.
The deadly shooting was Hueytown’s first homicide this year.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
