Spring sports roundup: Spain Park baseball squeezes past Thompson

Spain Park used a sixth-inning safety squeeze to provide the winning run in an 8-7 victory over Thompson in a Class 7A baseball game on Thursday.

James Battersby singled to open the inning, moved to second on a fielder’s choice and stole third before Sam Waldrop bunted back to the pitcher for the game-winning run.

The play capped a dramatic game.

The teams swapped first-inning runs before visiting Spain Park scored 4 in the top of the third — with a Rhys Jones’ solo homer and Evan Bistritz’ run-scoring single — for a 5-1 lead. Thompson scored 5 in the fourth — including a 3-run homer by Ethan Crook and run-scoring single by D’Marion Terrell — for a 6-5 lead.

The Jaguars retook the lead with two fifth-inning runs and Thompson tied it in the bottom of the inning, setting up Waldrop’s game-winner.

Spain Park’s Aiden Berke was 2-for-4 with a run-scoring single, run, walk and steal while Waldrop had a double and scored in addition to the RBI bunt. Bistritz also scored a run, Richard Moon was 1-for-2 with a run, RBI and 2 walks and Arnold Bush had bases-loaded walk.

Thompson’s Tucker Arrington was 3-for-4 with a run, Crook added a single, Terrell walked and stole a base and Alex Jones run-scoring single.

Jackson Bradley picked up the win in relief with 2 scoreless innings, striking out 3 and allowing 2 hits.

Pleasant Grove 4, Southeastern 3 (8 innings)

The Spartans scored 3 in the top of the sixth to lead Southeastern 3-2 on Tuesday, but the Mustangs tied the game in the bottom of the inning before Pleasant Grove pushed across a run in the eighth for the win.

Kaleb Freeman and Timothy Blue had doubles in the win with an RBI each for the winners. TJ Thompson went 2-for-3 and Daylon Parks was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.

Ryan Hammett earned the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings with a strikeout and a walk. He did not give up any runs or hits. Freeman went 6.1 innings to start, allowing 3 runs – 1 earned – on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks. Blue also struck out 1 and walked 1, but he gave up a pair of hits in one-third of an inning.

Ryder Stewart took the loss for Southeastern in relief of Drew Hicks. Stewart gave up a run on a hit with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Hicks struck out 11 in 6 innings, allowing 3 runs – 1 earned – on 4 hits.

Owen Wadsworth and Hicks had doubles for the Mustangs. Hicks was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Stewart went 2-for-3 with 2 runs and Jackson McMillian was 2-for-3.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Soddy Daisy (Tenn.) 9, Madison County 2

The Trojans from Soddy Daisy, Tenn., exploded for 6 runs in the bottom of the third inning to push their lead to 8-0 on the way to the win over Madison County at Robertsdale High School on Wednesday. The loss snapped a 10-game winning streak for the Tigers.

Soddy Daisy, a city of 13,000 northeast of Chattanooga, used a pair of pitchers to hold the Tigers to 6 hits with 11 strikeouts. Junior Alexander Pinson struck out 9 for the Trojans in 5 shutout innings. He allowed 4 hits and walked 1. Taylor Hughes closed out the game, giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts with 3 walks.

Anthony Florio went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 runs scored for Soddy Daisy. Brian Scroggins and Logan Williams drove in a pair of runs apiece.

Brody Moon went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Madison County. Braden Reed singled and drove in a run. Memphis Scott, Jace Duckett and Chris Fearnside all had singles in the loss.

Nick Sharp took the loss, giving up 5 runs – 4 earned – on 4 hits in 2 innings. Sharp struck out 1 and walked 2. Keigan McClure gave up 5 unearned runs on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and Connor Drake gave up a run on 2 hits in an inning.

University School (Tenn.) 8, Madison County 6

The Bruins of the University School of Jackson, Tenn., handed Madison County its second straight loss on Wednesday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. University School scored 4 runs in the bottom of the third after Madison County had pushed across 4 in the top of the inning and scored 4 more in the fifth.

The Bruins out-hit the Tigers 11-8 and overcame 2 errors in the win.

Harrison McClein doubled and was 2-for-3 for University School. Clenon Hardin was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and Noah Britt went 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.

Corben Howard earned the win in 4 innings of relief of Jake Martin. Howard allowed 2 runs – 1 earned – on 3 hits with 3 strikeouts. Martin started and allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits with a strikeout.

Riley Tipton took the loss for Madison County. He gave up 7 earned runs on 7 hits with a walk and a strikeout. Connor Drake gave up a run on 4 hits in 2 innings of relief. He struck out 1 and walked 1.

Jace Duckett went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Jake Thornton, Nick Sharp and Tipton had RBIs in the loss. Duckett, Memphis Scott and Thornton had doubles for Madison County.

Madison County is 11-3 on the season and is scheduled to host Whitesburg Christian and DAR on Saturday.

Madison County 5, Wilson Central (Tenn.) 4 (10 innings)

Madison County rallied in the bottom of the 10th inning to edge Wilson Central of Lebanon, Tenn., on Tuesday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Memphis Scott tripled with one out in the bottom of the 10th, Jace Duckett was intentionally walked and Jake Thornton drove in the game-winner with a sacrifice fly to end the game.

The Tigers pounded out 14 hits on the day with Scott adding a double to his late triple and Duckett also doubled. Scott went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, Connor Drake was 3-for-5 with 2 runs, Duckett was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs, Thornton went 2-for-5 and Chris Fearnside was 2-for-4.

Wilson Central got doubles from Caden Webber and William Summers, who was 3-for-5 with 2 runs scored. Edward Sirovy took the loss on the mound as the Wildcats’ fourth pitcher.

On Monday, Madison County beat Lebanon, Tenn., 3-0 as Duckett struck out 11 and pitched a 3-hit. Duckett walked 1 in his complete game victory, throwing 62 strikes in 94 pitches.

Nick Broadbent, Braden Reed and Scott all doubled for Madison County. Broadbent and Reed had RBIs. The Tigers also got hits from Thornton, Nick Sharp, Fearnside and Cole Mullins.

Casen Kincaid took the loss for Lebanon, giving up 2 runs – 1 earned – on 6 hits in 5 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 2.

New Hope 5, Baldwyn (Miss.) 0

The Indians swept a pair of games with two shutouts on Monday in the Gulf Coast Classic at Orange Beach High School beating Baldwyn, Miss., 5-0 and a 4-0 win over Ada, Okla.

Riley Schutte picked up the win over Baldwyn, striking out 7 in 6 innings and allowing 2 hits. Schutte also went 1-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.

Dawson Cambron was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base and Layton Pohl and Colby Hall were both 1-for-3 with a run and a steal. Grant Maples was 1-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a steal.

In the 4-0 win over Ada, Layton Pohl gave up a hit in 5 innings, striking out 6 and walking 4. Maples, who was 1-for-3 at the plate, pitched 2 innings, allowing no runs on no hits. He struck out 2 and walked 1.

Cambron went 2-for-3 with a run, as did Carlie Harbin. Schutte was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a steal. Hall was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Andrew Dudley was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

James Clemens 3, Hartselle 1

The Jets scored all their runs in the bottom of the second inning and held off Hartselle on Thursday to improve to 14-4 on the season. Both teams managed 7 hits and neither committed an error.

Matthew Drinkwater picked up the win for James Clemens after allowing an earned run on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk. Mason Busch closed out the game with a pair of strikeouts with 3 hits in 2 innings.

Jesse Isensee was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Jets. John Thomas Johnson was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Carson Loosier, Satchel Wheeler and Hayden Markfort had James Clemens’ other hits.

Josey Williamson was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Hartselle (10-3). Andrew Coleman tripled and Christopher Miles also went 2-for-3 with Lawrence Williams and Cameron Palahach also contributing hits.

Nick Chumley was saddled with the loss for the Tigers, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. Coleman and Brody Leathers both registered a pair of strikeouts, Coleman in an inning’s work and Leathers in 3.

Hartselle 7-9, Hazel Green 0-2

The Tigers swept a double-header at Hazel Green on Monday with Jace Meadows and a pair of relievers allowing 1 hit in the shutout win.

Meadows gave up the hit, struck out 9 and walked 1 in 5 innings. He threw 50 strikes in 77 pitches for Hartselle. Cade Miles and Nic Chumley threw an inning each striking out 3 and 1, respectively. Chumley gave up a walk.

Josey Williamson went 2-for-3 for Hartselle with an RBI. Chris Miles was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and Cade Miles walked twice and scored 2 runs.

Blake Saltzman took the loss for Hazel Green (4-12), giving up 5 runs – 3 earned – on 2 hits with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks over 4.1 innings.

Gunner Dodd got the Trojans’ lone hit.

In Game 2, Peyton Steele went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a pair of runs scored for the Tigers. Andrew Coleman was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Brody Leathers went 1-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Cameron Palahach was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Cade Miles walked twice and scored 2 runs.

Cole Miles allowed 2 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits with 4 strikeouts for Hartselle.

Tarpley Priest and Colton Clark got Hazel Green’s hits in the game.

Gunner Dodd took the loss, giving up 3 runs on 4 hits with 9 strikeouts and 4 walks.

East Limestone 8, Franklin County (Tenn.) 6

East Limestone edged Franklin County of Winchester, Tenn., at home on Monday.

Chris Fitts smacked a pair of home runs for the Indians in 4 at-bats. Leyton Coffman was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Cade Parham went 2-for-3.

Micah Montgomery struck out 3 in 1.1 innings and Noah Workman fanned 4 in 1.2 innings on the mound for the winners.

Decatur Heritage 12, Falkville 5

The Eagles beat Falkville in a home game on Tuesday. Olsen Howard led Decatur Heritage with a double, triple and a home run.

Rafer Jones earned the win on the mound for the Eagles.

On Monday, Decatur Heritage blanked Colbert Heights 5-0 on the road as Landon Henry threw 4 shutout innings to earn the win.

Howard went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the win.

Westminster Christian 6, Byng (Okla.) 5

The Wildcats won a pair of games in Robertsdale on Tuesday, including the come-from-behind win over Byng, Okla. Trey Perkins executed a safety squeeze play to drive in starting pitcher Joshua Goode for the game-winner.

Goode had started the seventh inning with a single, went to second on a sacrifice by Amos Baldwin and stole third.

Westminster Christian trailed 5-1 after three innings. Goode gave up 5 runs on 6 hits, but shut out the Pirates the rest of the way on only 3 hits.

Lawson Collier, who went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the first inning, went to the mound in the seventh and got a fly out to keep the game knotted at 5.

Westminster also blasted Battle Ground of Franklin, Tenn., 16-1 in 3 innings on Tuesday. Leading 4-1, the Wildcats sent 10 men to the plate in the second inning and scored 8 more runs.

Collier went 3-for-3 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Sean Lapinskes was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Jackson Lange gave up a run on 1 hit for Westminster while striking out 7. After the Wildcats added 4 more runs in the third, Lange retired Battle Ground in order, striking out the last two batters.

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Baker 6, East Central (Miss.) 2

Baker topped East Central of Moss Point, Miss., on Tuesday as Ethan Santos pitched a 6-hit complete game. Santos struck out 6 in 7 innings and helped himself at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored.

The Hornets trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning, but head coach Tim Minto praised his squad’s toughness.

“We are very proud of this team and their ability to stay in the game,” he said. “Most teams would lay down after going down 2-0 in the fourth, but these young men stayed in a tough game against a good team and continued to fight. Their perseverance has shown through two games in a row now.”

Baker beat Bayside Academy 5-4 on Saturday as Connor Gatwood smacked a game-tying home run with 2 outs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

“They are a special group and embody everything a coaching staff desires in a team,” Minto said.

Damon Fountain went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs in the win. Camden Payne was 1-for-2 with a double, Connor Gatwood was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Peyton Buck was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Micah Cornelius went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Saraland 4, Thomasville 1

Cooper Henson struck out 7 to earn a complete-game win over Thomasville on Tuesday. Henson also had a double for Saraland in the win.

Camron Laffitte hit a solo home run, Cam Warren had an RBI double, Evan Hilliard doubled and scored a run and Santae McWiliams had 3 hits and scored a run. Brooks Womble also had a hit and a run scored.

UMS-Wright 4, Waverly Central (Tenn.) 0

The Bulldogs swept a double-header at Fairhope on Wednesday, beating two Tennessee teams.

In the win over Waverly Central as Jack Blackerby struck out 4 in 5 innings, allowing 3 hits. Andy Purvis got a save, striking out 4 and giving up a hit.

Will Taylor had a 2-run home run for UMS-Wright. Sage Guesnard and Ty Waters had an RBI apiece.

In a 9-1 win over Walker Valley of Cleveland, Tenn. Alex Sherman struck out 9 for UMS-Wright. He gave up a run on 4 hits in 6 innings. Sherman also contributed a pair of RBIs to help his effort.

Waters had 3 RBIs and Taylor had 2 runs batted in.

STATEWIDE

Montgomery Academy 11, Pike County 1

The Eagles scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first on the way to the win over Pike County at home at Bowman Field on Tuesday. Montgomery Academy pounded out 10 hits in the 5-inning, 10-run rule win.

Rick McBride and Andrew Hosein had 3 hits apiece for the winners. McBride had 2 RBIs and Hosein added another. Luke Jones was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Ware McCollum and John Allen Jones had a hit each.

Eighth-grader Reid McBride gave up 1 hit and a run with 7 strikeouts in 4 innings. Parker Cook struck out the side in the final inning.

On Monday, Montgomery Academy beat LAMP 7-5 on the road. The Eagles jumped to a 6-0 lead in the top of the second.

After getting a 2-0 edge in the first thanks to an RBI single by Hosein and a fielder’s choice RBI from Luke Jones, Montgomery Academy pushed the margin to 6-0 on a pair of 2-run singles by Hosein and John Allen Jones in the second.

The Tigers narrowed the lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the third before Cook blasted a solo home run to center field for the Eagles.

LAMP got another run in the fourth and two more in the bottom of the seventh.

Hosein was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, John Allen Jones went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Rick McBride went 2-for-4 for the winners.

McCollum started and gave up 2 hits and 2 runs in 3 innings. Oscar Fiore pitched 3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Luke Jones got a save, allowing 1 hit.

Gardendale 10, Center Point 0

The seventh-ranked Class 6A Rockets blanked Area 11 opponent Center Point in a 10-goal rule shortened home contest on Thursday.

Gardendale (9-2-2, 2-0) got a hat trick from Wyatt Chandler and Guillermo De La Cruz scored twice. Tanner Dill, Jon Price and Logan Stewart also scored for the Rockets.

Keeper Connor Thomas earned the shutout.

Gardendale is scheduled to travel to Jasper on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. match.

Hoover 2, Spain Park 1

The Bucs edged cross-town rival Spain Park on the road on Tuesday as keeper Sawyer Houlditch made a pair of late saves to preserve the win.

Conrad Hernandez scored Hoover’s first goal less than 2 minutes into the game that was tied at 1 at the half.

Reese Kearney scored what proved to be the game-winner in the second half.

St. James 6, Prattville Christian 2

Prattville Christian fell on the road to St. James to drop to 1-5 on the season.

Cade Segars scored a goal and had an assist on Liam Taylor’s goal for the Panthers.

Prattville Christian 9, Alabama Christian 2

Cade Segars poured in 8 goals as the Panthers downed Alabama Christian at home on Tuesday for their first win of the season.

Liam Taylor had 3 assists on the day and Brady Rogerson scored a goal and had an assist. Spencer Perkins recorded the win in goal.

Mountain Brook, St. Paul’s tops in Dumbwaiter Invitational

Bayside Academy hosted the first Dumbwaiter Invitational Golf Tournament at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley this week.

Mountain Brook won the Stableford scoring round on Monday, scoring 160 points. The Spartans edged UMS-Wright as the Bulldogs finished with 168.

St. Paul’s won the Medal round on Tuesday. The Saints finished with a team score of 320. Mountain Brook was second at 322.

Buddy Fleming of St. Paul’s was the medalist with a 3-under 69 on Tuesday.

HUNTSVILLE/TENNESSEE VALLEY

Brooks 9, Deshler 0

Three Brooks pitchers combined on a 2-hit shutout at Deshler on Tuesday. Eleanor Patrick got the start and the win, striking out 5 and allowing a hit in 4 innings. Hatton Behel struck out 1 in an inning and Abigail Herndon gave up a hit and struck out 1.

The Lions pounded out 13 hits, with Donna Roberson, Harmony Behel, Preslie Bunch, Herndon and Baylee Darby getting 2 hits each. Darby had a home run and a double with 2 RBIs. Harmony Behel tripled and Bunch and Brayleigh Leone had doubles. Herndon also had 2 RBIs on the day.

On Monday, the Lions beat Rogers 13-2 as Herndon went 3-for-3, smashing 3 doubles, with 5 RBIs and scored. Herndon also picked up the win in the circle, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits over 3 innings.

Brooks had 12 hits and 12 RBIs on the day. Bunch was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs scored, Hatton Behel drove in 2 runs and Leone was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jamya Edwards and Roberson, who had a double, also drove in a run each.

North Sand Mountain 3, North Jackson 1

Caybree Dobbins struck out 13 as the Bison earned the road win on Wednesday. Dobbins gave up an earned run on 4 hits and walked 3 for North Sand Mountain.

Cloey Davenport and Kaleigh Roberts both had triples in the win. Davenport was 2-for-3, Cara Holder drove in a run and Kyree Shankles was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Darcy McClendon took the loss for North Jackson, allowing 3 runs – 1 earned – on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts.

Avery Wynne had a triple and an RBI for the Chiefs. Kinley Burton, Allie Benson and McClendon also had hits.

North Jackson 13, Whitwell (Tenn.) 4

The Chiefs jumped to a 7-1 lead after 3 innings on the way to the win on the road over Whitwell on Thursday. North Jackson out-hit the Tigers 18-3 and capitalized on 3 Whitwell errors while committing 2 on the day.

Allie Benson earned the complete-game win, allowing 4 runs – 3 earned – on 3 hits with 8 strikeouts. Two of Whitwell’s hits were home runs. Benson did not walk a batter and helped herself by smacking a homer on her way to a 3-for-4 day with 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

Avery Wynne was 5-for-5 with 2 homers, a double and 5 RBIs. She scored 4 runs. Darcy McClendon and Peyton Malley were 3-for-5 on the day with both driving in a pair of runs and scoring a run. Malley and Kinley Burton both doubled for the Chiefs.

Kendal Holtcamp homered and drove in a pair of runs and Kasie Britton had a homer with an RBI for the Tigers.

Kailee Yarber took the loss, striking out 5 and walking 3 while allowing 11 earned runs on 18 hits in 7 innings.

On Monday, North Jackson blanked DAR 5-0 as McClendon threw a 7-inning shutout. She struck out 4 and allowed 6 hits in the win.

Wynne went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run for the Chiefs. Addie Reed and Malley both had hits with an RBI. Allison Ferguson, Allie Benson and Millee Grider also had hits.

Mackenzie Ford went 2-for-3 for DAR. The Patriots also got hits from Ansleigh House, Nataly Grimmett, Jaycie Cornelius and Aubrey Haas.

Addison Stinson took the loss, giving up 5 runs – 2 earned – on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks over 6 innings.

Piedmont 5, Walter Wellborn 1

The Bulldogs earned the win on Thursday at Walter Wellborn as starter Carson Young struck out 3 in 5.1 innings, allowing a run on 7 hits with no walks. Reliever Savannah Smith struck out 2 in 1.2 innings with no hits or walks.

Smith went 2-for-4 with a run and 2 RBIs for Piedmont. Cacey Brothers was 2-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Cayla Brothers went 2-for-4 with a triple and a double with a run scored. Amiyah Thomas had an RBI.

Destiny Benefield took the loss for the Panthers, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits with 2 walks over 7 innings.

Hannah Grubbs was 2-for-3 at the plate and Cassidy Gray was 2-for-4. Jaylyn Chattin, Benefield and Hunt Jordan all had singles.

On Monday, Piedmont rallied for all 4 runs – unearned – with 1 out in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 4-3 home win over Sand Rock on Monday.

Cayla Brothers and Casey Brothers drove in 2 runs apiece in the decisive inning. Cayla Brothers was 2-for-4 with a run scored while Casey Brothers went 1-for-3. Amarae Champion, Kaeyln Green and Eliza Mathis were all 1-for-1, with Champion and Green both scoring a run.

Smith and Thomas also had hits for the Bulldogs.

Smith earned the win in the circle, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits with 7 strikeouts in 7 innings.

Macy Martin took the loss for Sand Rock, allowing 4 unearned runs on 8 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks in 4.1 innings.

Aliyah King, Molly Lay and Katelyn St.Clair had doubles for the Wildcats. St.Clair was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and King had an RBI.

Brewer 3, Huntland (Tenn.) 1

The Patriots scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to get the win over Huntland, Tenn., on Thursday.

Lilly Hamilton led Brewer, going 2-for-2 with a run scored. Breia Rusk and Cadence Lott were 2-for-3 with Lott driving in a run. Braelynn Reed had a pair of RBIs and Alivia Lawrence had an RBI.

Lawrence picked up the win, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts in 6 innings.

On Tuesday, Brewer scored 6 runs in the top of the sixth to rally from a 7-2 deficit to beat East Limestone 8-7.

Rusk went 1-for-5 with a pair of RBIs for Brewer. Keylyn Stapler 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ava Walls was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Lott was 2-for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored and an RBI and Brooklyn Watson went 2-for-4 with a double.

Karli Stanton earned the win with 4.2 innings in relief of Lawrence. She struck out 1 and gave up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits. Lawrence also had a strikeout, allowing 5 runs – 4 earned – on 6 hits in 2.1 innings.

West End 13, Holly Pond 0

Josie Bunch pitched a 5-inning shutout and helped her cause with a pair of hits and 2 runs scored as West End improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in Class 2A, Area 10 play with the home win over Holly Pond.

Jada Wright had 2 hits, 3 RBIs and a run scored for the Patriots. Liddy Falkner had 3 hits, 2 RBIs and scored 3 runs for West End. Daleighia Wheeler had a hit and scored twice.

On Tuesday, West End blanked Holly Pond 8-0 on the road as Braylee King pitching a complete game. She also had a hit and scored twice for West End.

Emma Finch went 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBIs. Wheeler tripled with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Falkner doubled, scored a run and had an RBI. Wright had a hit and had 2 RBIs.

Mars Hill Bible 8, Colbert County 6

Emma Claire Sak went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs in Mars Hill’s win over Colbert County.

Madie Sain went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs for the winners.

BIRMINGHAM

Leeds 11, Lincoln 5

The Green Wave earned the win at home over Lincoln on Monday.

Paisley LaClair led Lincoln at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Maddie Smith was 2-for-4 and Chandler Stephens was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Kalia Fowles doubled in 3 at-bats and drove in 2 runs. Zoe Korreckt and Aubrey Machen also had hits.

MOBILE/COASTAL ALABAMA

Baldwin County 6, Foley 0

Madilyn Byrd had her second straight 15-strikeout performance on the road Thursday, allowing one hit following her 6-0 no-hitter over Robertsdale on Tuesday. The junior did not walk a batter in either game.

Byrd also had a 2-run home run and a double in the Thursday win. The cleanup hitter was 2-for-4 at the plate.

Brooke McGowin had 2 hits, including a solo home run.

In Tuesday’s win over Robertsdale, Byrd got 3 strikeouts on 9 pitches in the top of second inning.

Karsyn Barnett went 2-for-3 for the winners and Ryann Wallace was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Rylee Budke took the loss for Robertsdale, allowing 3 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits in 3 innings.

Satsuma 13, Jackson 1

Belle Sheffield improved to 7-1 on the year, throwing a complete-game 2-hitter for Satsuma on Tuesday. She struck out 10 and allowed an unearned run with no walks in 6 innings. Sheffield upped her career strikeout total to 609, hitting the 600 mark on her first K of the night.

Sheffield was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and 2 RBIs.

It was also a big night for two Gators hitters as Presley Willis and Bralee Byrd both notched their 100th career hits. Willis was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and Byrd was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Gators pounded out 17 hits in the win with Ashia Martinez smacking a 10-run rule walk-off grand slam. She finished 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs.

Jaiden Cortlett went 3-for-3 with a run scored, Anna Bonds was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, Madison Sawyer went 2-for-4 with 2 runs and an RBI and Haley Jones was 1-for-4 with a run.

Satsuma 15-15, Escambia County 0-0

Satsuma whipped Escambia County in a double-header on Thursday – no-hitting the visitors in both games. Anna Bonds threw a 3-inning perfect Game 1, striking out 9 for the Gators. She also was 1-for-1 with a home run and 3 runs scored. Bonds is 4-0 on the season.

Ashley Parker had a pair of hits with 2 RBIs for Satsuma. Haley Jones had 2 hits while Bralee Byrd and Ella Howell both had 2 RBIs.

Byrd no-hit the Blue Devils in Game 2, another 3-inning game. She struck out 5 and went 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored at the plate.

Bonds, Belle Sheffield, Presley Willis, Lorali Miller and Ashia Martinez all had 2 hits in the win.

The Gators are 16-1-1 and 3-0 in Class 4A, Area 2.

Orange Beach 4, Pace (Fla.) 2

The Makos beat Pace, Fla., on Tuesday, knocking off the No. 5 team in the nation according to MaxPreps. Orange Beach handed the Patriots their first loss in nine games this season.

KG Favors struck out 12, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits with 4 walks to get the complete-game win.

Ava Hodo went 1-for-1 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Kaitlynn Robertson went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a double. Katie King was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Daigle Wilson was 1-for-2 with 2 runs and 3 steals.

Jayden Heavener took the loss for Pace, striking out 10, walking 3. She allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over 6 innings.

On Monday, Orange Beach whipped Navarre, Fla., 11-1. Justine Henderson earned the win, striking out 5 and allowing 5 hits in 6 innings.

Hodo was 3-for-4 with an RBI, a double and a triple with 2 runs scored. Wilson went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a double and 3 stolen bases.

Pike Road 15, Park Crossing 0

Freshman Paisley Forshey allowed no hits in a 3-inning run-rule win at Pike Road on Thursday. Forshey struck out 3 and walked 2 to pick up her second win of the season as the Patriots improved to 9-3.

The Patriots jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning as Addison Belyeu and Anna Williams drove in a pair of runs each and Ava Milton singled in a run.

Christian Juarez had a 2-run sacrifice fly in the second inning and Williams singled in a run and Haley Melton smacked a 2-run double.

Juarez and Kasyn Wilson drove in single runs in the third with back-to-back triples and Melton drove in one with a sac fly.

Brantley 12, Red Level 2

Anna Parker Little pitched a 5-inning no-hitter as Brantley beat Red Level at home on Thursday. Little struck out 9 in the win. She helped her cause with a double at the plate.

Marley Kilcrease had 3 hits with a triple and 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs with 3 stolen bases. Kaitlyn Piggot had a pair of hits with 2 RBIs as the Bulldogs improved to 7-3.

On Tuesday, Brantley won 7-6 at Ariton as Little struck out 9 in relief for the Bulldogs.

Mary Driggers and Emma Crawley had a pair of hits each for the Bulldogs.

On Monday, Brantley blanked Pike Liberal Arts at home as Little struck out 13 and gave up 1 hit. Little walked 1 and had 2 RBIs to help her cause.

Kilcrease, Hope Richardson, Savannah Nichols, Piggott and Crawley all had hits for Brantley.

Prattville Christian 6, Stanhope Elmore 0

Alivia Messick struck out 10 and gave up 3 hits in the Panthers’ shutout home win over Stanhope Elmore on Thursday.

Kandice Crosby was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and 2 RBIs in the win. Paysley Bayer had a homer and 2 RBIs. Peyton Thrash was 3-for-3 with an RBI for Prattville Christian (6-3).

Erin Williams and Payson Hanson both had RBI singles.

On Tuesday, Prattville Christian topped Tallassee 8-5. Lara Beth Nesmith earned the win for PCA and Messick put in a 5-inning stint for the save at Tallassee.

Crosby went 4-for-4 and homered in the win.

Horseshoe Bend 5, Dadeville 2

Freshman Brynlee Alford struck out 17 Dadeville batters as the Generals topped Dadeville on the road on Tuesday. Alford gave up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits in the win.

Horseshoe Bend trailed 2-1 after four innings before scoring a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and seventh.

Cara Davis went 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs for Horseshoe Bend and Lily Moss was 2-for-4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Jacey Johnson and Caralina Tidwell drove in a run apiece for the winners and Cara Johnson doubled.

Caylin Wood took the loss for Dadeville, giving up 2 runs – 1 earned – on 4 hits in 5 innings. She struck out 1 and walked 2.

Shakiya Presley, Alana Tolbert and Arieana Johnson had hits for Dadeville.

BIRMINGHAM

Hoover 2, Thompson 1

The Bucs, ranked fourth in the AHSAA coaches’ Class 7A poll, scored a second-half goal to edge Thompson on Tuesday.

Julie Cooke and Dee Dee Udeh scored Hoover’s goals as the Bucs improved to 2-1 in Area 5 play. Hoover is 11-2-1 on the season.

STATEWIDE

Montgomery Academy 15, Russell County 0

Mary Elizabeth Cole scored 6 goals as Montgomery Academy, the No. 3 Class 6A team, rolled over Russell County on Tuesday in an Area 4 contest.

Sophia Cho and Kerstin Daniel scored 2 goals each for the Eagles (6-1-1). Montgomery Academy also got goals from Lilly Hinds, Valentina Rubio, Asia Montgomery, Madison Yi and Lauren Jones.

St. James 11, Prattville Christian 1

St. James celebrated a historic night in the rout of Prattville Christian on Thursday at the Trojans’ Carlisle Field. Katie Brightwell led the way, scoring 8 goals and adding an assist. Her scoring outburst put her over 200 goals in her career at 202.

Natalie Barton scored 2 goals, one off an assist from her sister, Elliette Barton – the first in varsity play for the siblings. Gracie Russell also scored her first varsity goal.

Mary Grace Hixon had 3 assists on the night with Elliette Barton adding 2. Hope McCain, Hailey Vance, Molly Phillips and Sana Shuford all had assists.

“It was not only a special night to watch and celebrate one of our players breaking a major milestone, but for it to be my daughter it had an extra special meaning for me,” St. James coach Charles Brightwell said. “We are all very proud of her accomplishments and look forward to what is still to come with the team as we go forward this spring.”

Fourth-ranked Class 1A/3A St. James is 4-0-1 on the year and will play at Opelika on March 26.

Avery Rogers had Prattville Christian’s lone goal, assisted by Addison Sutton.

The Panthers (1-5) got goals from Rogers and Sutton on Tuesday in a 4-2 home loss to Alabama Christian.

St. James 2, John Carroll 2

Class 1A/3A No. 4 St. James and 5A No. 3 John Carroll battled to a 2-all stalemate in a match in Montgomery on Tuesday.

Natalie Barton scored both of St. James’ goals with Katie Brightwell assisting on each.
