When Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced Thursday that the city would tear down the Mobile Civic Center and construct a new arena, city officials were quick to point out what Mobile is getting: a brand-new facility equipped to handle modern concerts, sporting events and Mardi Gras balls.

“There will be nothing else like it in the U.S.A,” Bradley Byrne, CEO of the Mobile Chamber, said during the announcement Thursday.
