NCAA tournament broadcaster to miss March Madness due to ‘family health issues’

Greg Gumbel will sit out the 2024 NCAA Tournament due to “family health issues,” according to The Athletic.

“CBS/WBD’s NCAA men’s basketball tournament broadcast assignments usually get announced this week but one small piece of news: Greg Gumbel won’t be working the tournament this year as he deals with family health issues,” Richard Deitsch posted on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Look for Ernie Johnson to pick up more studio time.”

Johnson, the host of “Inside The NBA” on TNT, will host most of the the tournament coverage more than likely.

The NCAA Tournament will begin next week. Tens of thousands will fill out those brackets in hopes of winning the office poll or at least a bit of respect after the matchups are set on Selection Sunday.

Every game of the men’s tournament will be aired either on CBS, TBS, TNT or TruTV and their digital platforms, including Paramount+. TBS will handle the Final Four and national title game this year.

Gumbel, 77, has been in his second stint at CBS since 1998 where he has been the studio host for coverage of college basketball and for the NCAA Tournament.
