Alabama police officer killed in off-duty domestic shooting
An Alabama police officer has died following an off-duty shooting.
Sylacauga police on Monday identified the victim as 40-year-old Jeremy Dewayne Wilson.
Wilson was an officer with the Ohatchee Police Department. He formerly served as a Talladega County sheriff’s deputy.
Sylacauga Lt. Willis Whatley said officers responded on March 6 to 1599 Commerce Drive on a report of a person shot.
They arrived to find Wilson with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
“Officers spoke with other people in the residence and determined the shooting was the result of a domestic violence altercation between the male and other members of the residence,’’ Whatley said in a news release.
Wilson was taken by ambulance to Coosa Valley Medical Center Hospital. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Whatley said no arrests have been made.
“All parties involved are cooperating with the investigation,’’ according to Whatley’s statement.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is being released at this time.
