Freeze warnings tonight; how cold could it get?

The next few nights could be quite chilly in parts of Alabama, and freeze warnings will be in effect for parts of the state.

The National Weather Service is forecasting overnight low temperatures to range from the upper 20s in north Alabama to the low to mid-30s in central Alabama and the low 40s in south Alabama.

The weather service said freeze warnings will go into effect at midnight tonight for all of north Alabama and the northern part of central Alabama. Residents in those areas are urged to protect any sensitive plants or vegetation that could be harmed by the cold.

There are no freeze warnings in effect for south-central and south Alabama, where temperatures are expected to remain above freezing.
