Auburn’s Johni Broome to be honored as part of Senior Day
Auburn will honor nine seniors as part of Senior Day before its regular-season finale Saturday at home against Georgia, including star center Johni Broome, head coach Bruce Pearl announced at his Friday press conference.
The full list of players includes Broome, K.D. Johnson, Dylan Cardwell, Chris Moore, Carter Sobera and Jalen Harper. Auburn will also honor three senior managers.
Jaylin Williams and Lior Berman took part in Senior Day last year and will not this year as a result. Williams will leave Auburn as the program’s all-time winningest player. Berman tore his ACL in Auburn’s win over Mississippi State, ending his college career after four years as a walk-on and earning a scholarship for his final season. He plans to play professionally in Israel next year.
Broome is one of several seniors being honored who still have eligibility to return. Taking part in Senior Day does not mean a player will not return next season, but it is often an indication of a final farewell on their home floor.
Broome is Auburn’s leading scorer this season and pursued the NBA Draft last summer before deciding to return to Auburn. He’s likely to look toward the NBA again after this season.
Williams, Berman and Harper are out of eligibility after this season. All the others have an opportunity to return, though Pearl said he has not yet had conversations with those players.
“I just think we’re taking this one game at a time,” Pearl said.
After Pearl’s press conference, Cardwell said he has not yet made a decision for next year. Harper said he plans to play professionally in Spain. His brother, former Auburn star Jared Harper, currently plays in Spain for Valencia.
Auburn has several other players in their fourth academic year of college, but have remaining athletic eligibility who are not taking part in Senior Day including Denver Jones, Chad-Baker-Mazara and Chaney Johnson.
The game is set to tip off at 5:30 p.m. and will be aired on the SEC Network.
