How good was boys’ high school basketball in The Huntsville Times coverage area in 2023-24?

Good enough to produce four state champions out of the Northwest Regional, although two were Birmingham teams in Class 7A Hoover and 5A Fairfield, and two more that finished second. Mars Hill Bible of Florence won the 2A title and Buckhorn earned a repeat crown in 6A.

Two other Northwest champs lost in state title games in Tuscumbia’s Covenant Christian (55-44 in overtime to Georgiana) and 3A Midfield (54-28 to juggernaut Hillcrest-Evergreen).

Huntsville came out of the Northeast Regional, but a tough shooting night doomed the Panthers in a 55-52 loss to Enterprise. It was Huntsville’s only loss to an in-state team as Christian Schweers’ squad finished the season at 32-3.
