Man wanted on federal gun and drug charges nabbed in Bessemer by U.S. Marshals

A Hueytown man is in custody on drug and gun charges after his capture by U.S. Marshals.

Shawn Scott Jr. was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2022 on drug trafficking and gun possession, said U.S. Marshal Keely.

Marshals searching for Scott were led Wednesday to the area of Short 12th Street North in Bessemer. Bessemer police assisted.

Keely said Scott is known to have a violent criminal history, and information provided during the investigation indicated that Scott always had a firearm with him.

During a recent arrest, Scott was in possession of a Glock pistol with a “switch’,” making it a fully automatic weapon.

Upon arrival at the residence and after several minutes of knocking on the door, Scott came to the door and surrendered without incident.

At the time of the arrest, four additional weapons were found in the residence, including another Glock pistol with a “switch” and an AK-47 type rifle.

A female at the residence was also arrested for an active state warrant, unrelated to the charges against Scott.
