Alabama woman killed when motorcycle hits tree in Pensacola
A 58-year-old Alabama woman died when the motorcycle on which she was a passenger left a roadway and crashed into a tree in the Pensacola, Fla., area Saturday, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
The Florida Highway Patrol told the newspaper the accident occurred about 1:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Ensley community just north of Pensacola.
The motorcycle was being driven by a 72-year-old Pensacola woman, with the Alabama woman on the back, when the driver attempted to turn, but instead went over the shoulder of the roadway and crashed into a tree line.
The Alabama woman, from Lillian in Baldwin County, according to TV news reports, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital with what were described as serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
