ICYMI Huntsville: Loveable ducks, more work and less play and a new development for Five Points

A little bit of everything: An early summer opening is being targeted for the mixed-use development Stella at Five Points near downtown Huntsville. The four-story Stella will offer a street level retail and restaurant underneath 352 units which will include studios, one bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. The retail space will be about 3,500 square feet. The Stella will also include a four-story 444-space parking garage. The apartment community’s amenities will include: a heated pool, outdoor grills, fitness center, rooftop lounge, valet trash service, greenspace and a dog spa. Read more here.
Quack attacks? As the city of Huntsville makes repairs to a lagoon at the pond in Big Spring Park, a group of duck enthusiasts says they are concerned about how the construction might affect baby ducklings. A group, Waterfowl Enthusiasts at Big Spring, has grown concerned that ongoing modifications in the park might endanger ducklings, leaving them unable to get out of the pond when it is cold at night to be under their mothers’ wings. Work-Life Balance: Downtown Huntsville advocates say the thing they need most to grow the urban core is more people working day jobs there – not just living in the new apartments rising in several spots – but working in downtown offices. Read more here.
