Jason Isbell’s recent appearance on “The Daily Show” featured thoughtful discussion of weighty topics such as gun violence, songwriting, Southern masculinity and movie-set flatulence, but it turns out there was time for some real silliness too – like turning Fox News headlines into a song.

Well, “song” might be stretching it. But Friday morning on Twitter/X, the show posted a clip revealing that Alabama native Isbell and the show’s writers had a little fun taking a bunch of headlines targeting President Joe Biden and setting them to music.

Credit where credit is due: Not everybody would see the potential in rhyming “Biden bizarrely gives Jill a dandelion” with “Biden gets softball interview from Conan O’Brien.” But it scans. Other couplets are a little clunkier, like “Biden appears surprised over $6 smoothie in PA” and “Biden has not addressed UFOs in 9 days,” and Isbell does what he can.

That’s it. There’s no title, no bridge, no chorus. Just a pervasive “bless their hearts” vibe. And, in an election year, plenty of material to choose from.
