Tuscaloosa rape suspect texted apology to victim hours after attack, records state
A Northport man is charged in the 2023 sexual assault of a woman in Tuscaloosa, and investigators believe he may have attacked other women.
Dewayne Anthony Moore, 27, is charged with first-degree rape.
According to charging documents, the sexual assault happened between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Sept. 20, 2023.
Records state that Moore entered the victim’s home and raped her. Less than two hours later, a deposition states, he texted her and apologized “for forcing you to have sex with me.”
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said the investigation began last month.
Moore was taken into custody Wednesday and is being held without bond.
“The victim in this case was an acquaintance,’’ Kennedy said, “and it took a great deal of courage for her to come forward.”
The investigation is ongoing, and Kennedy said detectives believe Moore may have committed similar offenses against other women in the past.
