‘Jeopardy!’ NIL category includes Alabama, Auburn clues: Do you know them?
NIL has become so popular in today’s society “Jeopardy!” made a whole category of it on Thursday’s Tournament of Champions edition.
While the popular gameshow tends to make headlines for contestants failing miserably in the sports arena, Thursday’s participants hit out of the park, pardon the pun.
Two of the five clues were related to Alabama or Auburn. Do you think you have what it takes?
A quick warm-up for you.
The clue: The number of correct responses for five NIL clues from a psychiatrist from Canada, a trail planner from Maryland and an attorney from Virginia.
The correct response: Oh, I’m sorry. You’ll have to read on to find that one out for yourself.
On that note, here comes the “Jeopardy!” round.
The clue (for $1,000): Part of the NIL deal of UNC basketball star Armando Bacot Jr. was a part on this Netflix show set on a N.C. Island chain.
The correct response: Outer Banks.
Juveria Zaheer, the psychiatrist from Canada, buzzed in with the correct response, which combines knowledge of sports and pop culture.
If you nailed it, you have to be feeling pretty confident as the remaining clues in the category are considered easier.
The clue (for $800): In 2021 the first-ever NIL store opened in Lincoln Park, giving players of this “Fighting” team a cut of each jersey sold.
The correct response: Illinois Fighting Illini.
Luigi de Guzman, an attorney from Virginia, buzzed in first only to be tricked with the “Fighting” clue and gave the response of the “Fighting Irish,” which, of course, is Notre Dame.
Tough break, but the contestants are still in good shape. How you holding up? Time to move on to a different category? Zaheer went right back for more like a committee looking to expand a college football playoff.
The clue (for $600): Auburn QB Bo Nix made an NIL deal with Milo’s, maker of this 2-word sugary drink – then transferred out of the South to Oregon.
The correct response: Sweet tea.
Kevin Belle, the Maryland trail planner, wasted little time and jumped on the correct response.
Admit it, that was a gimme in this state. Combining college football with the cold, delicious staple of this fine state just isn’t worth our time. The contestants took a break from the category as there were more lucrative clues on the board. Belle, however, answered the bell (see what I did there?) and went back for more.
The clue (for $400): It’s the big-legacy name of Arch, who signed an NIL deal before throwing his first pass in college football.
The correct response: Manning.
Zaheer was as surgical with his buzz-in as a Manning running a two-minute drill at the end of a football game.
The final NIL clue was the last clue on the bard, and potentially the easiest.
The clue (for $200): It’s the nickname of Alabama CB Ga’Quincy McKinstry, whose smile resembled this pitch “Man;” Now he has an NIL deal with the drink, oh yeah.
The correct response: Kool-Aid.
Belle was quickest to the draw.
If you missed this one, you’ve lost your college football-watching privileges for the foreseeable future. In fact, like Nick Saban, you should retire from the sport.
So, how did you do?
If you tied or did better than 4 out of 5, there may be a “Jeopardy!” audition, or, even better, an NIL deal in your future.
