NFL Combine: Which defensive tackle ran fastest?

Florida State’s Braden Fiske ran the fastest 40-yard dash among the defensive tackles at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday.

Fiske clocked a 4.78-second showing at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

LSU’s Mekhi Wingo at 4.85 seconds and Texas’ Bryon Murphy II at 4.87 seconds were the second- and third-fastest among the 19 defensive tackles who ran the 40 on Thursday. Twenty-four defensive tackles are at the combine.

Fiske weighed 292 pounds for the combine. At 4.97 seconds, Mississippi State’s Jaden Crumedy ran the fastest 40 among the defensive tackles who topped 300 pounds. Crumedy weighed 301 pounds.

Three players with Alabama football roots are in the defensive-tackle group at the combine. Auburn’s Marcus Harris (Park Crossing) ran a 5.06-second 40 at 286 pounds and Alabama’s Justin Eboigbe ran a 5.18-second 40 at 297 pounds. Auburn’s Justin Rogers did not run the 40.

Harris ranked 12th and Eboigbe placed 16th among the defensive-tackle times.

Three other SEC defensive tackles participated in the 40 on Thursday. LSU’s Maason Smith ran a 5.01, Georgia’s Zion Logue ran a 5.14 and Texas A&M’s McKinnley Jackson ran a 5.26.

LSU’s Jordan Jefferson did not run the 40.

Wingo had the quickest get-off as he covered the first 10 yards in 1.64 seconds.

In the other measurable drills on Thursday, the leaders among the defensive linemen included:

Vertical jump: Fiske outdid the other defensive tackles here, too, by clearing 33.5 inches. The Florida State defensive end finished one-half inch ahead Murphy, with Duke’s DeWayne Carter and Clemson’s Ruke Orhorhoro at 32 inches each.

Broad jump: Fiske also had the best showing at this station by clearing 9 feet, 9 inches – 117 inches. Orhorhoro was 1 inch short of that mark, and Baylor’s Gabe Hall and Michigan’s Kris Jenkins were 2 inches behind Fiske.
