Storm chaser in Selma on what he’s seeing: Damage from possible tornado about ‘a mile wide’
Storm chaser Ryan Cartee was in Selma Thursday as the possible tornado hit and recounted his experiences to Fox Weather. Cartee said he could see debris from the storm being tossed in the air as he tracked its path.
“I’ve meandered around the residential area just west of town and there’s pretty good damage over there as well. I was trying to weave in and out of power lines and all that. It appears it crossed right through the northern part of downtown, basically all the way up to the river. It was about a mile wide path. I was on it when it went through time, maybe about a half a mile from it. It was roughly a mile wide, I was trying to get in front of it and I came down the highway and crossed over the bridge and got a clearing and it was a tall tornado when it was west, maybe 10 miles west of downtown.”
Cartee said debris on the roads is making it difficult to get around.
“There’s vehicles on their side two blocks from me in the middle of the highway. And to my left there are two vehicles under debris on the highway,” he added.
