Birmingham woman missing since she left for work 4 days ago; family desperate to find her

Family members and police are searching for a woman who has been missing since the weekend.

Crystal Matthews, 47, was last seen about 12:45 p.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of 42nd Avenue North when she left to meet a co-worker for a ride to work.

Matthews works as an in-home sitter and caretaker.

Family said it’s unlike the grandmother of two to not communicate with her family. They believe she is in danger.

“It’s hard,’’ said her son, Rashad Offord. “It’s never happened before.”

“One thing about my mom, she’s going to call me,’’ he said. “She’s going to call and ask about her grandbabies.”

Offord said he hasn’t heard from his mother since Friday.

“I just want to find my mama,’’ he said.

Matthews was last seen wearing black scrubs and black backpack.

She is 5-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 145 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 205-328-9311.
