40-year-old woman shot to death in Sylacauga home where her brother was killed 2 years ago

A 40-year-old woman was shot to death inside a Sylacauga home, the second homicide at the residence in two years.

The victim has been identified Tamekia Tana Fluker. Investigators do not believe she was the intended target.

Fluker is Sylacauga’s first homicide this year. Her brother was killed at the same home two years ago.

Police Chief Kelley Johnson said officers responded to a shooting at 4 p.m. Monday to 306 South Main Avenue.

They arrived to find Fluker dead inside her home. She had been shot at least once.

Investigators worked throughout the night taking statements from witnesses and collecting evidence from the crime scene.

Johnson said several rounds had been fired into the home, striking Fluker.

The chief said Fluker’s death is the second murder that has happened at or near the residence involving a member of the Fluker family.

On July 1, 2022, 22-year-old, Nartavius Cortez Fluker-Smith was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle in front of this residence. He was Fluker’s brother.

In the earlier case, 19-year-old Sheridan Rashon Clark is awaiting trial for capital murder and remains held without bond.

No arrests have been made in Fluker’s slaying.

“The Sylacauga Police Department wants to extend its deepest sympathies to the Fluker family, and we want to let the family and the community know that we will continue to work tirelessly to locate those responsible for her death,’’ Johnson said.
