Auburn baseball joins top 25 rankings for first time in 2024 season
After a 6-1 start to the 2024 season, Auburn baseball has joined the D1 Baseball top 25 rankings released Monday and is ranked No. 23.
The annually strong SEC in baseball has nine teams ranked in this week’s top 25, including Auburn.
Auburn began the season with a three-game sweep over Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 16-18 at Plainsman Park, outscoring the Colonels 32-8 for the weekend.
Last weekend, Auburn then traveled to Jacksonville to face two ranked teams in three games.
Auburn beat then-No. 18 Iowa 7-5 on Friday, coming back against the Hawkeye bullpen after struggling with starting pitcher Brody Brecht, a projected first-round Major League Baseball draft pick.
Auburn then beat Wichita State 19-8 in a run-rule victory on Saturday before falling to now-No. 13 Virginia 6-4 on Sunday. The Tigers allowed five runs after the fourth inning to Virginia including four of them off Auburn’s bullpen.
Auburn has previously been ranked in several other polls this season but not the D1 Baseball poll, the most widely used ranking, before this week. Currently, Auburn is ranked No. 19 by Baseball America and No. 14 by Perfect Game
